Northern Seattle Area
The following radial dendrogram shows results provided by Yelp reviews for the fast food and pizza restaurants found in the area in and around the Ravenna neighborhood in Seattle. Something which is integral to city life for many is the access to food. This can be in the form of various restaurants and grocery stores in the area that are easy to access. At the same time, while it is crucial that access to food is easy in an area, the type of food which can be accessed in an area is also important. Understanding the amount of unhealthy, albeit usually delicious, food such as pizza and fast food is crucial to understanding the overall health of the residents of a community. This is because the amount in which higher mass index are associated with living in proximity to fast food (Fleischhacker et al., 2011). Understanding the idea of what places are the place to get food, particularly fast food, can understand if areas like the Ravenna neighborhood have access to food which is sustainable for the community and their health. In order to create this radial dendrogram, the main values of the overall Yelp reviews for each business, understanding the main groupings of each of the nearby establishments and their popularity with residents. In addition, the map of the northern Seattle area provides an idea of what places tend to have the most popular destinations. Observing the collection of popular fast food as provided by Yelp, we can see that the majority of restaurants, both pizza and fast food, are found around the three to five-star range. On the other hand, a large number of fast food places are mostly found at the one to two-star ranges, implying that people tend to enjoy these pizza places rather than many of these fast food places. This shows that the fast food places are useful for providing food in a pinch but are not the quintessential thing needed for many who live in the general Ravenna area and nearby.
